Aug 12, 2023Kesha Strips Down to Celebrate Her Vulnerable New Album, Gag Order
Kesha bares all for her latest album—literally and figuratively.
To celebrate the release of Gag Order, available now, the 36-year-old singer recently shared a stunning nude photo of herself standing in a picturesque river with her hands covering her most intimate places. Kesha also placed a tiny image of her album over her breasts, captioning the photo, “The only thing I have on is my album.”
Kesha released the aptly named album amid her nine-year legal battle with former music producer Lukasz Gottwald (aka Dr. Luke), which began in October 2014. Per the Hollywood Reporter, Kesha no longer wanted to record music for Dr. Luke's label, Kemosabe, after alleging she was drugged and sexually assaulted by the producer. Gottwald responded by countersuing Kesha for defamation and breach of contract.
Now, she's saying everything she previously held back. “With this album, it was the first time I shed real light on subjects that, previously, I was too nervous to,” Kesha told SELF in an interview published on June 20. “This was me saying, ‘Yeah, I’ve had this self-imposed, implied gag order since I can remember, ’cause I’m still in litigation.’”
On June 22, Kesha and Dr. Luke settled their legal battle before it was scheduled to go to trial in July. “Only God knows what happened that night," Kesha wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post, per THR. "As I have always said, I cannot recount everything that happened. I am looking forward to closing the door on this chapter of my life and beginning a new one. I wish nothing but peace to all parties involved.”
